Why I Blog

Well hello!

I took a few hours this weekend and took time to catch up on my blog reading. I miss it. I may not have time to read an entire book (Bloom is the exception) but I typically(depends on the week) have time to click a link and read a quick blog. Each blog that I read has a purpose. It made me ask myself why? Why do I blog?

Each blog that I read brings me closer to myself. I am evolving. My outlook on life changed after the positive pregnancy test, after her diagnosis via amnio, and after having Harper. I feel like I'm starting over. Who am I? Blogs have helped me answer this question. It's an ever-changing progress and will probably never be complete.

I started this blog for many reasons. To keep my family and friends updated with Harper and her milestones. But to education and inform. To raise awareness that Down syndrome is ok awesome. To find myself.

I was an English major. I like to read. I enjoy writing. But I was lost. For years I thought I wanted to teach. Once the time came, I realized it wasn't for me. I was undecided lost. I had to start over and make the most of it. Once I met Andy I told him I wanted to write a book. Of course, I had no idea what the subject would be. I told myself that the topic would come and the time would come. That dream is out in the (far very far) distance but this blog brings me closer to it.

I blog because I want my daughter to be accepted. I blog because I want Down syndrome to be accepted and rejoiced. Not hidden with tears. She is to be enjoyed. She is the epitome of the "up side of Down syndrome." She is, by far, the happiest baby I have ever met. Her smile will make your heart melt....instantly. Her laugh, well you get the idea. Harper Alice is delightful.

I know that this blog has touched many. Family, friends, and strangers read this little space of bloggy land that I call mine. That makes my heart smile. I blog for the comments and emails I receive after a post strikes a cord with you.

I blog because it brings me closer to myself but I blog because of Harper. She needs her mommy to be whole.

I know most of you come for the pics of Harper and that's alright. Each picture is instant gratification. My hope is that you read a few words every now and then and learn something new.

This is just what I was looking for. I did not expect that I’d get so much out of reading your write up! You’ve just earned yourself a returning visitor.
